I watched, in awe, the footage of people applauding those working through COVID-19 in our beleaguered National Health Service – applauding their tireless dedication and applauding in cities, towns and villages across the land.

It would be churlish to make comparisons but, notwithstanding, this demonstration of solidarity is no less than I feel about the people working here at Fourayes.
In the face of the huge challenges brought about by COVID-19, the self-isolations, the 2-metre distancing, the impact on the supply chain and more, the workforce and management team has responded with a can-do attitude that is admirable.
Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic we established our own small ViPER team (Virus Protection Emergency Resource). This team meets daily, responding to new health requirements and working to establish the safest working practices possible throughout the Business. It’s a tough decision to isolate a critical worker but these are unprecedented times.
I am proud to say that everyone throughout the factory has pulled together, in order to ensure that deliveries to customers are being met and the quality of the products we’re making is to the same high standard our customers have come to expect.
Cross training has paid off. In various places throughout the Business, people have been able to step in for others who are self-isolating, and to do so with knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm.
Our investment in technology, and the energy and inventiveness of our IT department, has enabled office staff to work from home, freeing space to introduce more appropriate social distancing for those who come to work each day.
My own applause may seem inadequate at a time like this, so I would just like to say, to everyone who works at Fourayes, to our customers who continue to supply vital food products to an embattled public, and to all our suppliers who are continuing to supply the materials we need despite everything, thank you.
Please take a moment to applaud yourselves. You’ve certainly earned it.
