First aseptic plant in the UK

Aseptic products include organic fruit puree for baby food.

As Britain’s largest fruit processor, Fourayes, is planning to produce organic fruit puree for baby food. Fourayes’ aseptic processor is the first of its kind in the UK. The aseptic process does away with preservatives and provides organic fruit puree with a long shelf life which is just what Organix Brands plc, based in Dorset, is looking for. “We usually get our organic fruit for our baby food from Europe”, says Anne Kaile from Organix. “We would prefer to work with an organic processor in the UK and so we are very pleased that Fourayes  has invested in the aseptic system”.

Fourayes and Organix are currently looking at making organic baby food using pears, apples and strawberries but Fourayes say they can process any fruit to make aseptic puree and bananas and plums would also be suitable for organic baby food.  “We started out processing apples and strawberries using the aseptic plant.” says Phil Acock, MD of Fourayes in Kent. “But this summer we also processed Kentish plums and quite a large shipment of bananas. Working with companies like Organix is just the next step to developing a wide variety of aseptic fruit purees for use in baby food and many other organic fruit products”.

Fourayes also has another development in the pipeline. The company is about to draw water from a new 65 meter borehole dug on the Fourayes Farm. It will supply at least half the water needed in the company’s entire processing plant.
